This studentship is advertised as a 1+3 award, offering one year’s research methods study at Masters level, followed by three years doctoral study for the award of PhD. We want to recruit, support and supervise an outstanding candidate with a strong academic background in either sociology or anthropology (or allied disciplines) and – crucially – a developing ethnographic imagination.

The topic area can be loosely defined as urban ethnography; we want to supervise a fieldwork-based project conducted in city centre public space.

The deadline for applications is 26 January 2015.
