Ivana Maček’s research interests are in the field of anthropology of war and mass political violence. In 2009 her monograph Sarajevo Under Siege: Anthropology in Wartime (University of Pennsylvania Press) was published which was the result of the research project “Belonging in Bosnia. Cultural Dynamic of Collective Identities in the Context of 'Dirty War'” – the first project carried out during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

History Respawned is a show where researchers consider historical video games. In This War of Mine, which is inspired by the history of the siege of Sarajevo, the player is controlling a group of civilians struggling to survive a military siege.

In the interview, Ivana Maček puts the conflict in context and provides the background to the siege as well as comments on how well the game depicts life during a siege.
