With increasing globalization and cultural complexity, governance takes novel forms. Studying how attempts to govern are organized and how such attempts are responded to, informs us about how contemporary power is being reconfigured and challenged. Anthropological studies of organizations focus on how varying forms of governance are organized, maintained, contested, and transformed. A central issue is the study of the cultural beliefs, norms, and forms of knowledge that shape organizations, how these are mobilized to coordinate and govern, but also how they are reinterpreted and how resistance takes shape.
