Projects

Projects are well-defined research assignments in the social sciences and humanities carried out by groups of individual researchers and by small research groups who have connections with Sweden. This means that it is a requirement that researchers active in Sweden participate in the research or that a Swedish research institute is involved. This also means that RJ allows the participation of foreign researchers based abroad. The researchers are free to define their own research task. Projects are approved for up to three years.

Programmes

Programmes are joint, well-integrated research assignments in the social sciences and humanities carried out over relatively long periods (six to eight years) by groups of merited researchers who have connections with Sweden. This means that it is a requirement that researchers active in Sweden participate in the research or that a Swedish research institute is involved. This also means that RJ allows the participation of foreign researchers based abroad. The researchers are free to define their own research task.

Programmes require a highly developed research environment or researcher network, and advanced expertise on the part of the researchers and research leader. Research groups of this kind are characterised by being well established in the international research community, with active networks and high productivity in terms of publication, both national and international.

Infrastructure for research

RJ’s support form ‘Infrastructure for Research’ comprises initiatives aimed at making possible and promoting future research in social sciences and humanities. Grants are awarded for activities involving preparation for research, such as:

  • establishing new research environments;
  • creating platforms where cooperation between the research community and other institutions is developed;
  • making important archive and library collections available;
  • setting up databases.
